Hupa are a Native American people in northwestern California. Their endonym is Natinixwe, also spelled Natinook-wa, meaning “People of the Place Where the Trails Return”. The majority of the tribe is enrolled in the federally recognized Hoopa Valley Tribe, nestled the in the beautiful mountains of Humboldt county along the Sacramento River. Recognizing the importance of renewable energy and the need to break fossil fuel dependence, Hoopa defined a global strategy for solar power generation and EV charging deployments, along with Fleet Electrification for all local government vehicles, and chose ZIS as a partner to implement these strategies in phases, using the California State Energy Commission Rebate Program. This phased project is slated to become a national example of converting entire communities into Renewable Energy sources and carbon free technologies.
